Haunted 3D, which co-starred Mahaakshay Chakraborty and which was a sleeper hit at the box office, will complete 15 years on May 6. When asked how she looks back at the horror flick, Tia smiled and said, “I cherish every moment of it. I am grateful that my first film is still considered the biggest horror film made in India. It made me who I am. Hence, there’s nothing but gratitude in my heart for that film and the team. I have fond memories of the shoot. Also, I love the horror genre. To get a chance to do a horror film was like a cherry on the cake!”

She said that shooting for a 3D film was a novel experience, “The team that handled the 3D aspect had flown down from Canada. The stereographer, Brent Robinson, had earlier worked on The Incredible Hulk (2008). There was a mirror in the camera. They used to merge the top and bottom image and then they used to film it. It was a technical thing, which I also saw for the first time. It was very different from the movies we did because before, for every shot, the team used to spend 20 minutes in the merging process. We would have a fixed position; we couldn’t move. Maybe we have better technology now and it’s easier to shoot a 3D film. But at that time, it was difficult. This was also a reason why the film turned out to be so good, as there was a lot of hard work involved in the film.”

Haunted – Ghosts Of The Past is all set to release this year. Earlier in the conversation, Tia Bajpai confessed, “When the teaser of Haunted’s sequel was released, it led to excitement among my followers as they assumed that I was in the film. I clarified that I was not a part of the film and wished the makers all the best.”

Does it sadden her that she’s not a part of Haunted – Ghosts Of The Past? Tia Bajpai replied, “Honestly, no. In the first film, my character was left behind in 1936. I knew Haunted 2 would happen as the first part became a cult. I love the first part from the bottom of my heart. Of course, I would have loved to be a part of it again, as Haunted was my first film. Nevertheless, I wish the makers all the best. In fact, I am very happy that Haunted 2 is coming.”

Haunted 3D was directed by Vikram Bhatt. She later worked in Lanka (2011) and 1920: Evil Returns, which were produced by Vikram Bhatt. Recently, the filmmaker was in the news for spending time in jail. There were accusations that he hadn’t paid dues to several crew members and actors.

When asked about her views and her experience of working with Vikram Bhatt, Tia Bajpai revealed, “I had a very good experience working with him. He’s a thorough professional. I agree with what the Supreme Court remarked that you cannot put someone behind bars because the film didn’t work. Film ka hit ya flop hona audience pe depend karta hai. The director makes the film, the actors act and then it goes to the audience. The final verdict lies with them. Moreover, the audience today is very unpredictable. A film that no one expects to be a big hit overperforms. Meanwhile, films expected to be sure-shot grossers might bomb. Hence, with all due respect, what happened was not right. But then, I don’t know the whole story. Hence, commenting about it would be very premature.”

Meanwhile, Tia Bajpai is gearing up for the horror flick, Lilly Rose – Chapter 1. She stated, “I have one more film in the pipeline that I’ll start in April. However, right now, the concentration is on Lilly Rose. I am fully in the Lilly Rose zone!”
