The upcoming film Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol, has sparked strong reactions from the film industry after scenes from the movie leaked online. The development comes at a time when the film is already facing delays in certification from the Central Board of Film Certification due to concerns related to its political content. The project is widely expected to be Vijay’s final film before he moves into politics full time.

Several leading South Indian actors have now spoken against the leak and urged strict action.
Rajinikanth calls for strict punishment
Veteran actor Rajinikanth described the leak as deeply upsetting. In a social media post, he said the illegal release of the film online had caused shock and pain. He urged film associations to raise their voice on the issue. He also asked the government to identify those responsible and impose strong punishment. He added that such crimes should not be allowed to continue in the future.

Kamal Haasan links leak to certification delays
Actor Kamal Haasan said the leak was not accidental. He called it the result of a systemic failure. He pointed out that delays in certification created space for piracy. According to him, when legal access is delayed, illegal channels take over. He said piracy is not about politics but about protecting cinema and those who work in it.
He also stressed the need for faster certification, stronger enforcement and real time takedowns of pirated content. He urged audiences to support the film by watching it legally in theatres.
The leak of #Jananayagan is not an accident – it is the result of systemic failure. Had due process been timely, we would not be here. Inordinate delays in certification created fertile ground for piracy. When legal access is stalled, illegitimate channels take over.

He added that such actions reflect insensitivity and cause harm without thought. He extended unconditional support to the film’s team.
The #JanaNayagan leak makes me angry.
I’ve experienced personally the pain and sense of loss when something like this happens, early in my career. You feel like a target, you feel a loss of hope, it’s not just about me, there are co-actors, directors, producers, and so many who…
