Actor Vijay Varma recently drew attention online after referring to Kartik Aaryan as the “King of PR” during a candid interaction with WeAreYuvaa. The comment came as part of a rapid-fire segment in which he was asked to assign traits to fellow actors based on their perceived strengths.
When asked who he believed deserved the title “King of PR” in Bollywood, Vijay promptly named Kartik. Although the remark appeared to be made in a light-hearted context, it quickly went viral and prompted mixed reactions across social media platforms.
A section of Kartik Aaryan’s fanbase criticised the comment and interpreted it as a backhanded compliment. Some users even described Vijay as “jealous” and a “hypocrite,” while recalling that the two actors had earlier shared space during an actors’ roundtable discussion.
This is not the first time Kartik Aaryan’s public image and industry positioning have been discussed in similar contexts. In 2019, singer Badshah referred to the actor as “overrated” during an episode of Koffee with Karan. Kartik later said he was surprised by the comment, noting that Badshah had earlier called him to praise his work and mentioned that his family admired him. The singer subsequently clarified his statement on national television and said, “he is a brilliant actor.”
More recently, filmmaker Karan Johar praised Kartik’s understanding of branding and positioning within the Hindi film industry. During an interaction with Curly Tales for their YouTube channel in November 2025, Johar described the actor as a “marketing genius” while discussing celebrities he would assign different professional strengths to in a hypothetical company setup.
Kartik Aaryan is yet to respond to Vijay Varma’s remark.
