In the first week of March, the industry, trade and fans got a jolt when it was announced that the much-awaited film Toxic, starring Yash, wouldn’t release on March 19, due to tensions in the Middle East. Instead, it was pushed to June 4. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai was scheduled for a June 5 release; due to a change of Toxic‘s release plans, its makers chose to postpone the film by a week and release it on June 12. A few weeks later, Bollywood Hungama was the first to report that the makers of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai are planning to prepone the release to May 22. Then, last week, Toxic’s makers revealed that they plan to further push the release. This way, Toxic got indefinitely delayed. Less than an hour after this surprising announcement, the makers of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai took back the June 5 slot.
In an interview with Bombay Times on April 30, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’s producer Ramesh Taurani opened up on this change of dates. He revealed that Yash and Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’s leading actor, Varun Dhawan, shares a close bond.
Ramesh Taurani said, “Yash and Varun are good friends. They got closer when Yash first announced that they had delayed their release to June 4. Their original release date was clashing with Dhurandhar The Revenge. Toxic’s revised release date was slated a day before our film, so at that point we decided to release our film on June 12.”
He continued, “Yash had told Varun that if there’s any further change, he will let him know. As soon as they decided to push it further, he informed Varun, and we decided to go back to our original release date, June 5. We had chosen this date eight months ago, so we are glad we got it back.”
Directed by David Dhawan, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai also stars Mrunal Thakur, Maniesh Paul, Chunky Pandey, Jimmy Shergill, Mouni Roy, Rakesh Bedi and others.
